Fellowship of National Sugar Institute in Sugar Technology awarded to Shri Mahendra Kumar Yadav

Kanpur: Fellowship of National Sugar Institute in Sugar Technology was awarded to Shri Mahendra Kumar Yadav for his innovative research work on “Production of Refined Sugar from Raw Sugar using Powder Active Carbon as De-colorization Agent”. He carried out the research work during the last three years under the guidance of Shri Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur.

At present, the sugar refineries in India generally use Ion-Exchange resins for de-colorization of raw sugar melt which is not an environment friendly process resulting in generation of significant quantities of brine, the treatment and disposal of which is an issue, said Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur. The studies conducted for optimizing processing parameters while using Powder Active Carbon shall benefit the sugar industry a lot as now Indian sugar factories are gradually switching over to raw-refined sugar production for better liquidity in international market and also for catering to the need of beverage and pharmaceutical sugar industry.
