Fiji government is expected to generate revenue worth $150 million from sugar export this season, said the Fiji Sugar Corporation.
According to the FBC News, Graham Clark, chief executive said the revenue from sugar industry will help the country thrive as Tourism industry is at loss due to lockdown. We have secured markets in Europe and UK and 60% of stocks will be sold with old rates though new rates are declining.
According to the reports, FSC has a target to produce 200,000 tonnes of sugar. Yogesh Karan, permanent secretary, Sugar has appealed the farmers to increase sugarcane production. Harvesting season is likely to begin next month. Meanwhile, the farmers raised the issue of shortage of labour and Karan assured them to address the issue.
