The crushing season has commenced in Fiji and the industry experts believe the current season will be better than the previous three seasons.
Fiji sugar corporation (FSC) CEO Bhan Singh expects the season to be good. Lautoka sugar mill has started the crushing season.
At the opening ceremony of the Lautoka sugar mill, Singh said, “We expect this season to be better than the last two to three years. Better in terms of operations, efficiency and sugar making.”
He said, “The management is confident to deliver positive results in the varying environment.”
Earlier, Surendra Lal, president of the National Farmers Union had stated, “Two cyclones TC Yasa and TC Ana have impacted the North as a result Fiji had continuous wet weather in the last few months which has resulted in a harvest of less cane. The past experiences suggest that whenever crops are damaged due to continuous cyclones, there is a drop in the cane production.”
