The government is urging landowners, especially women and young iTaukei youths, to get involved in sugarcane farming.
Sugar Minister Charan Jeath Singh noted that the sector is becoming more appealing due to rising global sugar prices.
“You don’t need to worry about finding markets for sugarcane because they’re already established,” Mr. Singh explained. “The current sugar prices are quite favourable and are expected to stay positive in the future, based on global trends.
“So, I encourage landowners to take advantage of this opportunity to start cane farming and use their land to generate income. We’re also ready to help through our grant programs to support them in becoming the cane farmers of the future.”
