The three sugar mills in Fiji have crushed 1.274 million tonnes of sugarcane till date during this season.
The Fiji Sugar Corporation stated that the mills have succeeded in crushing 6 per cent higher sugarcane compared with the same period last year even though it is heavily raining.
The mills have produced 114,138 tonnes of sugar this year as against 110,029 tonnes of the sugar during the same period last year.
The Labasa sugar mill suffered a sugarcane supply problem last week due to heavy rainfall. The mill had produced 1,365 tonnes of sugar by crushing 16,908 tonnes sugarcane last week.
The sugar mills are facing the worst situations during the last three weeks due to continuous downpour, informed FSC.
