Fiji: The sugar production in Fiji has increased in 2020 as compared with the previous season. The three sugar mills in the country have crushed 1,82,545 tonnes of the cane (33 per cent higher) as compared with the last season when the mills had crushed 137,446-tonne sugarcane.
The mills have produced 14,016 tonnes of sugar till date which is 22 per cent higher as compared with the same period last year.
The FSC has stated that the Lautoka mill began crushing last Friday and till date has crushed 3,375-tonne sugarcane. The Rarawai mill commenced crushing season three weeks ago and has crushed 65,982 tonne cane and the Labasa mill has crushed 1,13,188 tonnes of sugarcane in five weeks.
