FIR registered against farmers for stubble burning

Gurdaspur: As many as 60 farmers have been booked for burning stubble leading to air pollution in the district.

According to the news report published in Hindustan Times, Gurdaspur chief agricultural officer (CAO) Dr Raminder Singh said, “Police have registered 60 FIRs against farmers for burning stubble in the district.”

The action has been initiated to ensure that farmers stay away from this bad practice which causes air pollution.

Singh said, “Till now, 243 cases of stubble burning have been found as against 491 farmers last year during.”

On Sunday in one such stubble burning incident in Gunnopur village, 10 km away from Gurdaspur, the fire spread to 150 acres damaging crops grown by other farmers.

In Uttar Pradesh too, the government is very strict on stubble burning. Last year, many FIRs were registered against farmers in Shamli for allegedly burning stubble and sugarcane leaves.
