The ongoing sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra is in full swing with only 5 sugar mills closed operations so far as of February 19, 2024. In contrast, 27 mills had ended crushing during the same period in the previous season.
According to data from the Sugar Commissioner’s office, as of February 19, 2024, the state has achieved a sugar recovery of 9.91% for the 2023-24 season, compared to 9.87% at the same time last season. This season, one sugar mill in the Solapur region, one in the Pune region, two in the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar region, and one in the Nanded region have concluded their crushing operations.
In total, 207 sugar mills participated in crushing operations this season, comprising 103 cooperative mills and 104 private mills, resulting in the crushing of 834.63 lakh metric tons of sugarcane. The state has produced around 827.23 lakh quintals (82.72 lakh metric tons) of sugar so far.
Comparatively, during the same period in the previous season, 211 sugar mills participated in crushing, producing 896.59 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 908.27 lakh metric tons of sugarcane.
