GMR airports partners with Safran and Airbus for sustainable aviation fuel production in India

In a significant move towards enhancing sustainability in the aviation sector, GMR Airports, in collaboration with its partner Groupe ADP, has established a strategic alliance with aerospace leaders Safran and Airbus to advance the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the country, as conveyed by Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, the Chief Executive Officer of Delhi International Airport, a subsidiary of GMR Airports, reported Financial Express.

The escalating growth in air passenger numbers and aircraft movements has prompted both the Centre and the private sector to prioritise Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to meet carbon reduction targets. SAF, distinguished by its low sulphur content and reduced emissions, plays a pivotal role in the global aviation industry’s efforts to mitigate its environmental impact.

Jaipuriar highlighted that a comprehensive study is presently underway to determine the optimal blending ratio of sustainable aviation fuel annually. This meticulous planning addresses critical issues such as selecting the most suitable biomass feedstock for SAF production.
