Goa: CM assures government support to farmers if they take up the responsibility to run ethanol plant

Ponda, Goa: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has stated that the state government is ready to assist farmers if they take up the responsibility to run ethanol plant in the factory premises, reports Herald Goa.

Sawant cleared the government’s stand while discussing the issue with the delegation of sugarcane farmers that had blocked the highway demanding clarity about the government’s stand on the sugar mill that has been closed for more than four years.

Farmers have stated that they are ready to explore the possibilities but the government should hand over the possession of sugar mills to the farmers. The decision in this regard will be taken in a farmers’ meeting, said one of the farmers’ leaders.

The mill has been shut since 2019-20 and the government had promised to start an ethanol plant at the mill premises.
