Ponda: The sugarcane farmers have received the balance compensation that was pending with the Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd.
The mill has paid compensation to 243 farmers out of a total 676 farmers. The farmers that have changed their crop will have to wait for some more as the verification of changed crop is presently ongoing.
The state government has given a Diwali gift to the 672 cane farmers by sanctioning them 20% of the remaining compensation amount under the special assistance scheme to the cane cultivators. 80 per cent of the amount has been already disbursed to the cane farmers.
Chintamani Perni, administrator of the factory said, the government has sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore to the mill to clear the balance 20 per cent of the compensation to the cane farmers, The Times of India has reported.
