Ponda: Sugarcane farmers have warned the government that they won’t allow the use of Sanjivani Sugar Factory land for other projects, reports Herald Goa.
Farmers are upset over the government’s failure to set up an ethanol plant at the Dharbandora-based factory. They feel that they are being cheated by the government and want the government to write about the future of the sugar mill.
“We will fight till the government decides on the future of the mill and provides us an alternative source of livelihood. We won’t allow the government to use the land of the sugar mill for other projects till the stand on the ethanol plant is not cleared,” they said.
Rajendra Desai, president of the Farmers Association said that the government did not inform farmers before closing the mill in 2019-20. “Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had promised to set up an ethanol plant but now he is saying that the plant is not feasible,” he added.
