Government allows 5,841 tonnes sugar export to EU under Tariff Rate Quota

India has allocated 5,841 metric tonnes of sugar to be exported to the EU under the Tariff Rate Quota scheme, according to a notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

The allocated sugar export under the TRQ scheme is for the year 2024-25 (October 2024 to September 2025).

The export of sugar (HS Code 17010000) to EU under TRQ is ‘Free’ subject to the conditions notified in the ‘Nature of Restrictions’ in the notification.

As per notification, “Certificate of Origin, if required, for preferential export of sugar to EU shall be issued by Additional Director General of Foreign Trade, Mumbai on the recommendation of Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) regarding entity and quantity for which eligible. Other certification requirements, if any, prescribed specifically for the export of sugar to EU would continue to be followed.”

The quota will be operated by APEDA, New Delhi as the implementing agency for export of TRQ items to EU.
