Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar appointed as Maharashtra’s new sugar commissioner

Mumbai: Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar has been appointed as the new Sugar Commissioner of Maharashtra.

Shekhar Gaikwad, who held the position of Sugar Commissioner, retired on May 31, 2023. Anil Kawade (IAS), Commissioner of Cooperation and Registrar (Cooperative Societies) in the state, temporarily assumed the additional charge after Gaikwad’s retirement.

Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 2008 batch. He has held various positions throughout his career. Currently, he was serving as Municipal Commissioner of the Nashik Municipal Corporation.

Dr Pulkundwar is considered an officer having good relations with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He has worked as Joint Managing Director, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), Mumbai and has successfully handled the land acquisition process for Samrudhi Highway.

He began his career as deputy collector, Yavatmal and later on worked at various government offices showing his mettle. He has worked as a sub-divisional officer in Melghat, a special land acquisition officer at the Krishna Valley project, a resident deputy collector at Nanded, a Divisional officer at Parbhani and deputy general manager at MIDC. He has also worked as OSD to then chief minister Ashok Chavan in 2008 and later on worked as the personal secretary of the Health Minister also.
