Expressing confidence that India will achieve a 20 per cent ethanol blending target by 2025, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday that at present India has achieved 9 per cent. He was replying to a question raised during Question Hour in the lower house.
The government is encouraging an increase in ethanol blending in petrol to reduce the expenditure on oil imports.
He said, “We have achieved the 9 per cent ethanol blending in January and are confident that the 20% blending target will be achieved by 2025.”
Now the government has set a target of achieving 10% ethanol blending by 2022 and there is a need for 4 billion litres of ethanol in the 2021-22 sugar year to achieve this target.
Last year the government had advanced the 20 per cent ethanol blending target by 5 years from 2030 to 2025.
