In an announcement on April 28, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 23.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for May 2025, which is lower than the quota allocated for May 2024.
In May 2024, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 27 LMT for domestic sale. For April 2025, the allocation of sugar quota was 23.5 LMT. Additionally, the government had extended the March 2024 quota until April 10.
According to market experts, there is likely to be good demand in the market due to the summer season. Last year, in May, sugar consumption was 26.10 lakh tonnes. Considering this, market sentiments are expected to remain bullish.
