The government is promoting ethanol production in the country from several sources, including sugar, bamboo and grains, said Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, reports LiveMint.
Addressing the gathering at the Mint Mobility conclave, the minister said that there is a need to adopt ethanol as an alternative fuel for vehicles.
The minister also referred to the Russian technology used to produce ethanol with the same calorific value as that of petrol.
The government is planning to introduce 20 per cent ethanol blending with petrol in some parts of the country from April 2023.
