Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the 76th Independence Day said that India should work on becoming energy independent and become self-sufficient in meeting its energy needs.
In a bid to become self-reliant (Atmanirbhar), the government is pushing for ethanol blending with petrol.
We have achieved the 10% ethanol blending target ahead of schedule, said the Prime Minister. This has encouraged the government to advance the target of 20% ethanol blending to 2025 from 2030.
Modi, while inaugurating 2G plant last week, said that ethanol blending helped India to save around Rs 50,000 crore from being spent on imports in the last 7 to 8 years. The same money has now been used for the benefit of farmers in India.
According to the reports, supply of petrol with 20 per cent ethanol will result in a saving of an estimated USD 4 billion annually.
