Baraut: According to a report in Live Hindustan, Naresh Tikait, National President of BKU, has stated that sugar millers in western Uttar Pradesh have failed to settle the outstanding cane dues owed to farmers. He emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that the mills fulfill their payment obligations to the farmers.
Tikait explained that sugarcane farmers in the western UP region heavily rely on cane cultivation as a source of income. The mills had previously assured them that payment would be made within 14 days of delivering their cane. However, many sugar mills have defaulted on these payments, leading to the launch of an agitation demanding settlement of the cane dues.
Tikait further stressed that the government should intervene to ensure that the mills clear the outstanding cane dues owed to the farmers.
