Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait has called for the declaration of sugarcane prices considering the costs of cultivation. He stated that while farmers are bearing the burden of rising prices for fertilizers and pesticides, the government is reluctant to increase sugarcane prices, reported Live Hindustan.
Speaking on Wednesday, during his visit to Dehra Chak village en route to a mahapanchayat in Bijnor, Tikait addressed a press conference at the residence of Subhash Cheema, the organization’s block president. He pointed out that the prices of chemical fertilizers and pesticides are steadily increasing across the state. Given this, he urged the state government to set the minimum sugarcane price at no less than ₹400 per quintal for the upcoming season.
He announced that the BKU would hold a mahapanchayat in Lucknow on October 6 to discuss solutions to farmers’ issues. Tikait emphasized the importance of coordinating with officials to resolve farmers’ problems and urged the authorities to prioritize addressing these concerns.
