“Government should start working on war footing on restarting Sanjivani Factory”

Sanguem: Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik, a member of the Netravali panchayat, has called for #ModiKiGuarantee, urging uninterrupted financial assistance for sugarcane farmers and the eradication of commission agents causing distress to the agricultural community, reported Goannewshub.

Amidst the ongoing agitation to revive the Sanjivani Sugar Factory, Rakhi stressed that a mere extension of the financial assistance scheme, slated to expire next year, is not the solution. Instead, she proposed urgent government action to restart the Sanjivani Factory, either through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement or by direct government investment.

While awaiting the factory’s resumption, Rakhi advocated for the implementation of a previously suggested scheme. Under this plan, farmers would receive Rs 3,600 for the standing crop, with the government assuming responsibility for harvesting and transporting the sugarcane. This, according to Rakhi, would eliminate the exploitation of small farmers by profit-driven agents, benefiting both small and large-scale farmers.

She asserted that the proposed scheme would encourage more farmers to cultivate sugarcane, providing them with assurance of fair prices without the interference of corrupt agents.
