Fiji wants to help their sugarcane farmer before the commencement of the crushing season. According to the Ministry of Sugar, the priority of the government is to ensure that cane cultivators get assistance before the next crushing season starts.
Yogesh Karan, Permanent Secretary said that the Sugar Industry Tribunal has sanctioned the payments of more than $95 million. We have pushed up the payment issue before the crushing season begins in June.
“I am expecting to clear the payments by Friday so that the farmers get enough time to start preparations for next harvesting season and take up the repair works of trucks, tractors and other equipment,” he said.
As per reports, Labasa mill to open crushing season on the 10th June, followed by Rarawai mill on the 23rd June and Lautoka mill on the 24th June.
