Panaji: Cooperative minister Govind Gaude has stated that the state government will take a decision on the future of the Sanjivani sugar mill within two months. He was reacting to the reports which say that the sugar mill unit would be closed.
According to the media report, Gaude said, “The government will be consulting all the stakeholders before taking such a decision. The mill has incurred a loss of Rs 153 crores over the years. The machinery of the factory is deteriorating and the Goa State Pollution Control board and the inspectorate of factories and boilers are not permitting to commence the operations of the mill, then it is not right to start it forcibly.”
Former deputy chief minister and Madkai MLA Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhawalikar had suggested government that instead of closing down the mill because of loss, the government could focus on increasing sugarcane production in order to make profits.
