Government working on addressing grain supply problem faced by ethanol producers

We are aware of the shortage of grain supply the ethanol makers are facing and the government is working on finding a solution to this, said Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra, reports PTI.

The Food Corporation of India stopped the supply of rice to ethanol makers last month. “We know that the distilleries are not getting rice for their plants. Apart from this, the prices of broken rice and maize have increased. We will soon take a decision that will resolve the issue,” he said.

The share of grain-based ethanol is increasing in the last few years, said Chopra. In 2021-22 it was 17% and it has already crossed this percentage, he said.
