Indian sugar millers nationwide have been striving hard to sell the allocated quota of sugar for March 2020 and April 2020 with lack of demand in the market and the ongoing nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sugar millers seek an extension for the quota allocated to them for April 2020 to ensure they can accomplish selling the sugar stocks similar to the way they could for March 2020 stocks.
According to sources, the Department of Food and Public Distribution is likely to extend the time period for sale of allocated April 2020 to ensure the domestic sale of sugar isn’t razed more.
In a notification issued on the 26th day of March 2020, the food ministry has allocated 18 LMT monthly sugar quota for April to each of 545 mills in India.
