Government’s intervention and policy to incentivize consumers would help in the adoption of flex-fuel vehicles (FFV) in India, said Vikram Gulati, Country Head, and Executive Vice President, of Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
The lack of consumer acceptance is the primary challenge in the adoption of the FFVs in India, he said. They think that shifting to ethanol would lead to fuel efficiency loss, he said.
The cost of fuel needed and the cost of acquisition should promote customers to shift to the FFVs, said Gulati.
The government is working on alternative fuels by focusing on minimizing fossil fuel usage and achieving carbon reduction.
The FFV technology can help in using ethanol blends ranging from 20 to 85%, as per the company.
