Sugar mills across Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have been taking the forefront in manufacturing and supplying hand sanitizers to fulfill the growing demand ever since the coronavirus pandemic took a widespread turn.
Shree Ganesh Khand Udhyog Sahkari Mandli Limited (Ganesh Sugar Mill) a Surat based cooperative sugar mill has propelled with manufacturing with 5,000 litres of hand sanitizers under the brand name of “Ganesh Care” in an attempt to neutralize the soaring prices and to serve the demand of hand sanitizers.
In conversation with ChiniMandi News, Mr.Sandeep Mangrola – Chairman of Ganesh Sugar Mill expressed his views on the development. He said, “We are manufacturing sanitizers in 100ml bottles and they are available to consumers at Rs.35 each whereas other companies are selling the product at Rs.135 to 150. Our main motive is to ensure that everyone can afford to buy the product and we are keen in providing maximum benefit to the socially and economically backward population around our sugar mill and around Gujarat state too.”
Speaking on steps the Government should take to encourage the sugar industry for such products. He said, “Without the support and assistance of the Government it would be a daunting task for the sugar industry to come up with such products. The Government should assist in granting permission to those sugar mills that have a distillery unit and are licensed to manufacture ethyl alcohol. Further, the existing amendment made by the Government to make hand sanitizer upto 30th June 2020 should be revised in a way that mills are permitted to manufacture hand sanitizers from ethyl alcohol permanently.”
“I am confident that with proper consociation of the government and sugar millers across the country, this product will stand out tall and it would be a new gateway for millers to generate revenue.” He added
