Guyana government to revive sugar mills

Guyana president Irfaan Ali said that the government has initiated the process to restart the operations at sugar estates that were closed by the previous government.

According to the media report, Ali said, “We are speaking with the management of GuySuCo to identify the level of investment required for the revival. We are committed to bring these estates back to operations.”

The estates at Skeldon, Rose Hall and East Demerara are under consideration for revival, said the government. The government is however unclear about how it will revive the sugar sector.
