Hapur: Sugar mill receives less sugarcane this season

Hapur, Uttar Pradesh: The effect of shrinking sugarcane cultivation areas is becoming evident in mill crushing sessions. Simbhaoli sugar mill has begun to grapple with the situation of ‘no-cane’ and as a result, the current crushing season for mill is likely to conclude by the end of March or the first week of April, reported Jagran.

As sugarcane cultivation areas decrease, government procurement prices have soared beyond Rs 370 per quintal on government-owned mills, while other mills or smaller crushers have bought sugarcane up to Rs 400 per quintal. Consequently, the two mills in the district, Simbhaoli, and Brajnathpur sugar mills, are on track to conclude their crushing seasons well before schedule.

Currently, Simbhaoli sugar mill is witnessing a daily reduction of more than ten thousand quintals of sugarcane for almost two weeks. As per CGM, Karn Singh, around 20 lakh quintals less sugarcane has been harvested this year compared to the previous season, indicating the impending closure of the mills.

However, Brajnathpur Sugar Mill is still receiving sugarcane without hindrance.
