Harur sugar mill to start cane crushing from December 5

Dharmapuri: Sugarcane crushing at the Subramaniya Siva Cooperative Sugar mill in Harur in Dharmapuri would begin on December 5, reports New Indian Express.

The mill administration is expecting that around 3.95 lakh tonnes of sugarcane would be crushed this season. For the ongoing crushing season, cane grown over 10,500 acres has been registered with the sugar mill.

The farmers were urging the government to start crushing earlier at this state-owned sugar mill and accepting their demands the mill would start operations on December 5. The surplus rains in the region had resulted in farmers from Dharmapuri and Tiruvannamalai shifting to cane cultivation and around 40,500 farmers are engaged in cane cultivation in the region.

“Usually we start crushing operations in mid-December but due to an increase in the number of cane cultivators we are starting the crushing operations in early December,” said Rahmatullah Khan, MD of the Sugar mill.
