Chandigarh: Three co-operative sugar mills of Palwal, Kaithal and Meham will manufacture jaggery along with sugar in the upcoming crushing season, said Dr. Banwari Lal, Haryana cooperation minister. Subsequently, other co-operative sugar mills will also follow the footsteps.
He said, “At the Cooperative Sugar Mill Plant in Shahabad, ethanol will also be produced and arrangements are being made for this.”
Government is also eyeing on power generation. Efforts are being made for co-generation in Cooperative Sugar Mills of Shahabad, Rohtak, Karnal as well as Panipat to ensure production of additional power at these plants.
According to the government, these steps will benefit sugar mills to increase their financial situation which will ultimately benefit sugarcane farmers.
