Haryana: Cooperative sugar mills to begin crushing from November, says Minister

Chandigarh, Haryana: Cooperative sugar mills in the Indian state of Haryana will begin sugarcane crushing from November, Cooperation Minister Banwari Lal said on Monday, reported Tribune India.

Lal chaired a review meeting with officials from cooperative sugar mills in Chandigarh, where he said that farmers would be notified on their mobiles about when they can bring their produce for sale to the mills. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring timely payments to farmers and claimed that all outstanding payments had been cleared.

Lal said that sugarcane had been planted on 197,581 acres of land this year, a 17% reduction compared to the previous year. This year the state has set a target of crushing 424 lakh quintals of sugarcane.
