Haryana: Farmers threaten to stop cane harvest if their demands are not met

Karnal: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU-Charuni) have threatened to stop harvesting sugarcane if the government fails to hike the state advisory price (SAP) of sugarcane from Rs 362 per quintal to Rs 450, repoprts Tribune India.

Farmers have given a deadline of January 16 to the state government and stated that if their demands are not met by January 16, they will stop cane harvesting from January 17.

They have also threatened to close all the sugar mills for an indefinite period from January 20.

The state government has formed a committee to look into the matter. A delegation of farmers will meet the committee in Panchkula on January 16.

In a recent meeting convened by Deputy Commissioner Anish Yadav and other government officials with agitating farmers, they were informed that the government is considering their demands on a priority basis.
