Haryana farmers to intensify agitation demanding hike in sugarcane price

The sugarcane farmers in Haryana have threatened to intensify their agitation demanding a hike in the support price for the sugarcane crop, reports The Hindu.

The state government has formed a committee to look into their demand and invited them to discuss the issue.

Rampal Chahal, vice-president of ‘Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samiti’ said farmers under the leadership of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) have organized a Kisan mahapanchayat at Karnal and decided to intensify their agitation if the government fails to accept their demand by January 20.

Farmers have been invited through district administration to meet the committee headed by Agriculture Minister J. P. Dalal, said Mr. Chahal.

“A delegation led by BKU (Charuni) and sugar committees will meet the committee to discuss our demands. If our demands are not met then we will intensify agitation from January 17 and will lock all sugar mills from January 20,” he said.
