Haryana: Minister assures to discuss the issue of increasing SAP for sugarcane with CM

Kurukshetra: The farmers’ demand to raise state advised price (SAP) for sugarcane would be discussed with the chief minister, said Cooperative Minister Dr Banwari Lal, reports The Tribune.

We are trying to increase the crushing capacity of the sugar mills to ensure that Haryana farmers need not have to send their cane to other states, he said.

Minister was speaking at the inauguration of the 39th cane-crushing season of Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mill.

Farmers want a hike in SAP for the cane to Rs 400 per quintal whereas Haryana Government gives Rs 362 a quintal for early maturing varieties and Rs 355 for late maturing varieties.

“We are paying the highest prices for sugarcane to the farmers and the farmer’s demand would be raised before the CM,” he added.

“Sugar mills have to focus on the production of other products like ethanol, power and jaggery apart from producing sugar,” said Minister.
