Saraswati Sugar Mills (SSM) in Yamunanagar has announced the start of its sugarcane crushing operations on November 12.
This decision will enable farmers to plant their wheat crops on time, as they typically cultivate wheat over 25,000 to 30,000 acres following the sugarcane harvest in the SSM’s command area each year.
“Considering the production and availability of sugarcane, the mill management has decided to commence crushing operations on November 12,” stated SK Sachdeva, Chief Executive of SSM.
He also mentioned that all necessary tests of the mill have been successfully completed.
“This season, we will implement an advance token system for sugarcane supply to reduce the time farmers spend in the mill yard,” added SK Sachdeva.
Farmer Krishan Pal Jathlana highlighted that many small farmers plant wheat after harvesting their sugarcane. “The Saraswati Sugar Mill is crucial for wheat sowing. Most small farmers depend on the mill’s schedule since they can only plant wheat after their sugarcane is harvested,” explained Krishan Pal.
DP Singh, Senior Vice-President of SSM, noted that the mill has set a target of crushing 160 lakh quintal of sugarcane this year.
He also mentioned that the sugarcane crop has been cultivated over 85,000 acres in the SSM command area this year.
