Sonipat: The Sonipat Cooperative Sugar Mill has emerged as the leader in sugar recovery in Haryana, achieving a rate of 9.75 per cent. This success comes after initial setbacks at the start of the season. The Palwal mill secured the second position with a recovery rate of 9.65 per cent, while Shahabad and Karnal ranked third and fourth, respectively, reported Punjab Kesari.
The sugar recovery rate of cooperative sugar mills in Haryana is regularly monitored and published. The Sugar Federation released the latest on-date recovery list on Monday, placing Sonipat at the top. Encouraged by this achievement, the Sonipat mill administration has now set its sights on improving the to-date recovery rate as well.
The online token booking system at the Sonipat sugar mill has played a crucial role in improving the sugar recovery rate. Previously, without this system, farmers’ sugarcane would often remain in the yard under the open sky for extended periods while they waited for their token. Sometimes, it would take two to three days for the sugarcane to reach the processing chain.
Prolonged exposure to the sun caused the sugarcane to dry out, reducing the sugar content. Now, farmers can book their tokens online from home and track their token numbers through the app. As their token number approaches, farmers can bring their sugarcane to the mill and return within a few hours. This has significantly reduced the problem of sugarcane drying and resulted in higher sugar recovery due to prompt processing.
The Sonipat mill began its crushing season on November 25th. Since then, it has processed approximately 1.5 million quintals of sugarcane. The mill has a crushing capacity of 22,000 quintals per day, but it has been exceeding this capacity for the past few days. In the last 24 hours alone, the Sonipat mill crushed 22,059 quintals of sugarcane.
