Haryana: Sugarcane farmers await pending dues

Karnal: Farmers, from Karnal and Kurukshetra district, claimed that they have been awaiting pending payment of canes sold to Piccadilly sugar mill in Bhadson village two months ago, reports Tribune India.

Farmers have threatened to protest against the mill if it fails to clear their dues worth Rs 80 crore.

Rampal Chahal, state vice-president of the Ganna Sangharsh Samiti Haryana, said, “Around Rs 80 crore of nearly 4,000 farmers of over 200 villages of Karnal and Kurukshetra districts are yet to be cleared by the management of the Piccadilly sugar mil. The mill administration is not paying heed to our demand.”

“As per the rule, the mill should clear cane dues within 14 days after procuring cane from farmers, but it has not cleared any dues after February 17,” he added.

“We will soon convene a meeting of the cane farmers to discuss our future course of action,” Chahal expressed.
