Ambala: Demanding pending cane dues worth Rs 71 crore of the ongoing crushing season 2021-22, sugarcane farmers from the Ambala region have launched a protest outside Naraingarh Sugar Mill in Bandondi village in Ambala district on Monday, reports The Times of India.
The farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni, Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samiti and BKU Shaheed Bhagat Singh participated in the protest launched in front of the gate of the mill demanding pending cane dues.
Due to poor performance in the last season 2020-21, the sugar mill is not in a position to clear the payment in time until the produced sugar gets sold., said Naraingarh sub-division magistrate (SDM)-cum-chief executive officer (CEO) Neeraj of Naraingarh Sugar Mill.
Malkiat Singh Sahibpura, Ambala district president, BKU Charuni said, “The mill started operations on November 23, 2021, but has not paid cane bills of farmers from the last two months which amount to Rs 71 crore. We have set a deadline of February 13 to get our cane dues. If the mill fails to pay us dues, we will launch a protest outside Naraingarh SDM office from February 14.”
