Haryana winter session: Congress demands hike in sugarcane rate, stages a walkout

Chandigarh: The legislators of the Congress staged a walkout on Wednesday, the last day of the winter session demanding a hike in sugarcane rates, reports Free Press Journal.

Former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the rise in input costs has increased the expenses of farmers and it is necessary to increase rates of sugarcane.

The rates of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, petrol-diesel and transport have been increasing continuously but sugarcane price are not hiked pushing farmers into financial distress, he said.

Farmers have demanded to hike the cane rate to Rs 450 per quintal but the government is not accepting their demands, said Hooda.
