Political parties and farmers are opposing the move to lease “MySugar” (Mysore Sugar) factory in Mandya to private players. JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Monday met Karnataka CM Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on the same issue and requested him not to permit leasing the factory to private companies.
Kumaraswamy said, “I met the Chief Minister along with our MLAs and MLCs from Mandya district to discuss the issue of Mysore Sugar factory. The CM has assured me that he will not permit the factory to go into private hands.”
Earlier, the farmers’ organisation had warned of protest if the factory is given on lease to any private company. Many sugarcane farmers in Mandya and Mysuru districts and workers were relied on the factory to run their livelihood. After the factory suffered heavy losses, the government closed the operations.
The farmers claim that the closure of the sugar factory has affected hundreds of cane growers and stated that they are against the government’s decision to lease the factory to a private player.
