Heatwave alert in India till May 18, southwest Monsoon to advance from May 19

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that there will be very hot weather in northwest India until May 18. This includes states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and others, reported Live Mint.

According to the latest bulletin from the weather office, some parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana will have temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in the next five days.

On the other hand, some states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and others will have light rain.

The weather forecasting agency said, “There will be rainy weather with some heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in southern India until May 18, 2024. The Southwest Monsoon is expected to arrive in South Andaman Sea, parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands around May 19, 2024.”

There will likely be very hot weather in some areas of Konkan on May 15; in West Rajasthan from May 15 to 18; in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, south Haryana, and Bihar from May 16 to 18; and north Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan on May 17 and 18, 2024. Severe heatwave conditions are also expected in some parts of West Rajasthan on May 17 and 18; and in some areas of Punjab and south Haryana on May 18, 2024.

Hot and humid weather is expected in Konkan and Goa on May 15; in Saurashtra and Kutch from May 16 to 18; and Gangetic West Bengal on May 17 and 18.

There could be heavy rain in isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh from May 16 to 18 and in Assam and Meghalaya on May 17 and 18, 2024. There will likely be scattered light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds (30-40 km) in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on May 15, which may increase to fairly widespread to widespread rain from May 16 to 18, 2024. Isolated light to moderate rain is expected in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from May 17 to 19, 2024.
