Shimla: Farmers’ leader Rakesh Tikait urged the government to assist the state sugar cane producers by providing transport subsidy so that they can send their cane from hilly areas to the sugar mills in the neighbouring states.
Addressing a congregation of farmers at Haripur Tohana village near Paontasahib in Sirmaur district, Tikait who is the national spokesperson of Bhartiya Kisan Union said that the government should provide subsidy to farmers as it provides a subsidy to sugar mills to transport sugar to ports.
In Himachal Pradesh farmers have to send their cane to other states as there is no sugar mill in the state.
