Mayiladuthurai: The State Assembly’s Committee on Estimates has assured the sugarcane farmers in the Mayiladuthurai district that the revival of the NPKRR Cooperative Sugar Mill is possible, repors The Hindu.
The committee visited the region last week and interacted with farmers.
S. R. Raja, Chairman, Committee of Estimates, said, “We have formed a committee for reviving production in the mill which will be visiting the district soon. All the necessary actions have been taken for the revival of the sugar mill.”
According to the officials, Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare M. R. K. Panneerselvam will inspect the mill on August 30. He had earlier announced the setting up of a committee for its revival.
The mill stopped operations from 2016-17 due to the non-availability of sugarcane for crushing.
