India may control maize export: Media report

Chennai: India is planning to control maize (corn) exports after its prices ruling above Rs 2,150 a quintal with an increase in demand from the poultry and starch manufacturers, reports The Hindu Businessline.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industry has written to the Commerce Ministry to ban the export of maize as the starch manufacturers are complaining of higher prices and shortage of the commodity in the market, the media report further said.

As per the data available with Agmarknet, an arm of the Ministry of Agriculture, during December 1-8, the weighted average price of maize was Rs 2,173.66 per quintal which is higher than the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,962. The prices of the commodity during the same time last year stood at Rs 1,653.88.
