India will advocate for a global alliance on biofuels at the upcoming G20 summit, along the lines of the highly successful international solar alliance, said Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, reports Live Mint.
Next year, in the month of September, India will host a meeting of the G20 member countries as it assumes the presidency of the group of 20 major economies.
The alliance would help in formulating an ecosystem for fuel standards and engines as well as technological cooperation for a quicker adoption.
Country relies heavily on crude oil imports to meet its domestic petroleum needs. Increase in ethanol production will aid to cut down the import and save forex, therefore government is taking steps for the same.
India is ready from the supply side to launch E20. In the case of E20, 20 denotes the percentage of ethanol mixed with petrol. Essentially, the number signifies the percentage of ethanol in petrol. India achieved 10 per cent ethanol blending in June this year, much ahead of the set target and advanced the target of 20 per cent ethanol blending to 2025.
