Indonesia aims to achieve self-reliance in sugar production

Batang: State-run company PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) III said that it has set a target to make Indonesia self-reliant in sugar production by 2025, as per the program announced by President Joko Widodo, reports Antara News.

PTPN III President Director Abdul Ghani in Batang said, “The state-run plantation company will make every effort to improve production in sugar mills and increase sugarcane plantation to provide the raw material for crushing,”

In 1930, Indonesia used to export 2 million tons of sugar when it was producing 3 million tonnes of sugar.

Ghani said, “The sugar output has not increased though the area under cane cultivation has almost doubled. We are discussing with the state-owned enterprise’s minister to help the nation achieve self-reliance in sugar production by 2025.”
