Jakarta (Indonesia): The state-owned holding company ID Food plans to import 125,000 tonnes of sugar from Brazil. The company has received Rp1.5 trillion in loans from the government through Himbara, the state-owned banks group, to execute its plans.
“ID Food is planning to import 125,000 tons of sugar from Brazil. Immediately after the government’s decision, we’ll execute the import,” President Director of ID Food, Frans Marganda Tambunan said on Wednesday, as quoted by Tempo.
He stressed the importance of this import, citing an annual sugar deficit of approximately 800,000 tons in Indonesia. The country usually imports sugar from Thailand, India, and Brazil.
