Jakarta: Sugar traders associated with the Indonesian Market Traders Association (Ikappi) said that the prices of sugar are rising ahead of Ramadan following an increase in demand in the domestic market, reports local media.
Teguh Stiawan, deputy secretary-general, Ikappi said, the drop in distribution of sugar is also leading to a rise in the prices of the commodity.
In a press release issued on March 29 by the organization, Teguh stated that the distribution of sugar has decreased by 40 per cent.
As per Ikappi’s report, the price of sugar is in the range of Rp 15,000 per kilogram.
“It is necessary to keep a check on the price of sugar ahead of Ramadan as the purchase and consumption of the commodity soared during this period,” Stiawan concluded.
