Jakarta: Indonesia has decided to import 2 million tonnes of rice, reports Tempo.
The decision has been taken by the government to resume rice imports. Arief Prasetyo Adi, head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) has issued an order to Perum Bulog to import 2 million tonnes of rice until December 2023.
The Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan has confirmed the decision to import 2 million tonnes of rice.
The first batch of 500,000 tons of rice would be imported immediately, as per the letter issued by Arief. The supply of additional rice could be used for the rice Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program.
The imported rice can be used to assist 21.3 million families that are beneficiaries of the government’s social aid program.
